Portland, Oregon native Nahko Bear points to his own Apache, Puerto Rican, and Filipino background when he says part of his band’s mission is to bridge cultures.

Referring to Nahko and Medicine for the People as a music collective, the musician/activist is dedicated to causes such as Honor the Earth, which supports Native American communities.

The band’s electric live shows have built a strong word-of-mouth following that in turn led to a Top 20 sales debut for the latest album HOKA.

HOKA features guest shots from Zella Day and fellow Portlandians Joseph, and the album unmistakably channels the Dave Matthews Band — but few seem to mind.

Stations like 91x, KPOI, WNCS, KXT and others are early believers.

Approaching a quarter-million views, check out the clip for San Quentin….
