90 weeks after it first charted, and 1 week before “Radioactive” is released, Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” is back on The Top 22’s Commercial AAA Chart. Discuss…and check out all six exclusive airplay charts…

We’ve often referred to the Commercial AAA Song Chart as the slowest moving chart in show business, but the point was hammered home today when Kings’ Use Somebody worked its way back onto the chart.

Yep, it’s the 22nd most played song at Commercial AAA — 90 weeks after it first hit, and 1 week before the first single from the next album comes out.

Discuss.

Check out all six of our exclusive airplay charts here, and check out a Kings of Leon sneak peak of the new track Radioactive:

Citing an inability to meet payroll, taste-making magazine Paste pulls the plug on the print edition. 9 of the 12 staffers are gone with just the three principles remaining with the company…

The brilliant but financially troubled Paste Magazine announced Thursday that it was suspending the print edition, and laid off three quarters of its full-time staff – unable to meet payroll.

Citing the prolonged downturn in ad spending, the magazine simply ran out of money and hit snags regarding new financing.

As we’ve noted here, the problems Paste and other print publications faced were not advertising related, but rather more systemic– the business model itself was obsolete. As described in The Chaos Scenario, an over-reliance on ad dollars is perilous at a time when more media options for those dollars become available every day.

And while Paste reached out to customers last year for direct, patron-style infusion of cash, it wasn’t enough, and the owners didn’t want to do it again.

Paste had a subscription base of about 200,000 and a website that reportedly has 750,000 unique visitors each month. The web and digital properties are generally excellent, which begs the question if a future Paste is simply better off without a print edition that serves more as a boat anchor.

Why is this man sort of smiling? He runs Time Warner and he thinks TV is in a “golden age.” Find out why. On the flip side, is pay TV hemorrhaging subscribers? And the royalty that radio is really afraid of…

A Golden Age?

Time-Warner’s Jeffrey Bewkes is in love with television. Even with all the digital threats, he loves the business model so much, he says TV is in a “golden age.”

Heard a radio guy say anything even remotely like that lately about his medium?

Find out why Jeff is heavy into the tube in this article in The New York Times.

Or Maybe Not?

Not to be contrary or anything like that, but pay TV lost subscribers for the first time ever last quarter.

Is it an economic blip or is it a bucket of cold water for those used to the money machine that is pay tv? Check out several opposing views in AdAge.

On the Radio Front…

If you’re curious as to exactly why radio crumbled and came to the table with an offer of a performance royalty, turns out there’s one thing they fear more than the royalty itself — and that’s a performance royalty that the Copyright Royalty Board comes up with.

You might recall that the CRB are the ones who screwed the pooch with their absolutely ridiculous, one-sided decision in favor of the labels on internet streaming royalties.

Radio owners feel that they’re better off with Congress safely out of the picture.

As noted in our previous story, the NAB isn’t exactly serious yet.
