Kevin and Anita Robinson are Viva Voce

We’re no expert on marriage, but we’ve heard that  1) you shouldn’t marry a musician, and 2) it’s very difficult to be married to someone that you work with.

So much for that. Husband and wife team of Kevin and Anita Robinson have just released their sixth CD as Viva Voce.

Viva Voce is no stranger to public radio, but crossover success at commercial radio has been elusive. Things are changing.

With their recorded-at-home Vanguard release The Future Will Destroy You, Viva is getting spins at alternative leaning AAA WXRT/Chicago as well as Tastemaking alternative stations like KROQ/LA, WFNX/Boston and the band’s hometown KNRK/Portland.

Expect the momentum to continue – the disc is currently a $5 download at Amazon, and there’s a full tour slated to start in September.

Future continues the duo’s exploration of classic rock and psychedelia — wrapped up with an indie rock bow. Because of Anita’s delicate vocals, the rocking tracks can feel like Mazzy Star, My Bloody Valentine, or Garbage.

It survived the Gavin Report, Radio and Records, and continues under Friday Morning Quarterback — the annual gathering of AAA Radio and Music Industry types in Boulder, Colorado.

With a theme of creativity, this year’s event will kick off Wednesday, August 10 with radio industry veteran Dave Benson interviewing music industry veteran Tom “Grover” Biery.

Then over the next three nights and days, artist showcases will range from longtime friends like Lindsey Buckingham and the Bodeans to up-and-comers such as Devotchka and Cults.

This year will feature a twist as two accomplished actors, Jeff Bridges and Rebecca Pidgeon, will take the stage to show their musical skills.

Inevitably one or more acts break out of this conference, with Dave Matthews and David Gray being two of the many names to do so in the almost 20-year run of the AAA Conference.

Who will break out this year is anybody’s guess, but we’re guessing one of them will be Austin guitar wiz Gary Clarke, Jr.

FMQB’s Jack Barton is expecting a bigger crowd than last year, with registrations already outpacing 2010. Fence-sitters should note that reduced-rate online registration ends Friday. After that, walk-up registration is available.
