Amy Winehouse died today of the disease she had since we first met her.

At radio, the single Rehab, from her second album Back to Black sounded at first like a tongue-in-cheek bad girl party anthem.

But as report after report came in about Amy’s addiction, including the use of hardly run of the mill stuff like ketamine, Rehab went from a wink to the excesses of the music industry to uncomfortably worrisome.

Amy almost single-handedly relaunched British soul, and that may end up as her legacy. But as with Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison — who all also died at 27 — we’ll feel a bit cheated or disappointed.

Clearly there was so much more there than we knew or will ever know.

A newly curated album of 12 fully realized studio recordings by innovator Jimi Hendrix will be released Tuesday, March 9.

For some 40 years, fans of have been trying to get hold of the elusive studio track Valleys of Neptune by guitar master Jimi Hendrix. They will finally get their chance at a crystal clear recording February 2nd, when it is commercially released as a single. Sony Legacy will be going for adds at AAA and Rock Radio February 9.

The album Valleys of Neptune contains an additional 11 previously unreleased tracks recorded in a four-month period in 1969. Highlights include new arrangements of Hendrix hits Stone Free, Red House, Fire, and more.

Also in March, the Experience Hendrix 2010 tour will kick off with a star-studded lineup, including: Billy Cox, Joe Satriani, Robert Randolph, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas, Susan Tedeschi, Doyle Bramhall II, Brad Whitford, Eric Johnson, and others.

TheTop22.com and Media Mechanics are assisting Sony Legacy with plug-and-play content for radio stations, including contests and an upcoming radio documentary. The doc is currently in production and slated for air  the first week of March.
